Jana and Jiro - March 2008

After I finished drawing Pepper I thought about drawing my grandmother’s portrait. I tried but I could not make the wrinkles on her face look as good as I wanted and I was so frustrated. I thought that doing dog portrait is a lot easier and thought that people portrait might be too difficult for me.

Later I thought I want to give it another go but this time I thought I should start with kid portrait because there will be no wrinkle. One of my friends, Manote, likes to take photos of his children. He normally posted their photos on Flickr and I found one that could make a good drawing. It took me 26 hours in total to finish it. I did 2-3 hours a day to start with then more during the weekend. Finishing this drawing gave me more confident to try drawing my grandmother. That will be my next challenge. I gave this drawing to Manote when I went back to Thailand in April 2008. He was delighted.

This is so beautiful and amazing for your first ever people portrait. You have captured a lovely picture, the smiling girl looks amazing.
