When my parents-in-law were here…

Last week I spent most of my time renovating our shower since there was water leaking. It took me two days to remove the old sealant and grouting. I finally had it done by Thursday. We invited mum and dad to come to our house over the weekend. This was the first time for them to be here over night since they came back from France. My HG was very good last week; he did not drink any alcohol at all for the whole week until Friday when his bad influences arrived. Haha!!

Mum brought some photos of Lesley’s dog to me. Lesley is her hairdresser as well as mine. Lesley saw Taggie’s painting and wonder if I could paint her dog too. I will try sometime this week because the weather forecast does not look so good.

We had Kao-Kha-Moo (Thai style pork leg stew). I made this dish before in June. I started cooking on Thursday and cooked more on Friday to make the pork tender. Mum and dad seemed to like it. We did not have any pudding after that because we were so full.

On Saturday, dad, HG and I went shopping at Tesco. HG drove dad’s car and kept moaning about how old technology dad’s car was. He had to remember to change gear, take the keys out and put it in the ignition key socket, press the button on the key card to unlock/lock the car. It was so funny the way he bragged over his dad. After Tesco we went to B&Q to buy some paints since I decided to decorate our study room sometime next month.

We went to Musselburgh to buy some seafood for dinner. I wanted to make steamed fish with ginger, mushroom and soy sauce. We bought haddock fillets and mussels. I bought mussels just to cook them and then freeze them.

When we got home mum said there was a call from Charlotte’s Graeme. He said he could not make his wireless network work. He needed some help sometime later. We had Dim Sum for lunch and left mum and dad to read the papers while we were over to help Graeme about his new wireless network. We could not make it work on that day but we needed to come back to cook dinner and we felt guilty to neglect the oldies for the whole afternoon. We took Graeme’s Access Point home so we could try it over night. We had sticky toffee pudding as dessert that night. It was my first time having sticky toffee pudding and so far it is my favorite dessert. After dinner we tried to get Graeme’s wireless network to work but there was no luck.

On Sunday we started to work on that wireless network again but we could not do much because we need to cook our lunch. We were going to have roast pork with apple sauce, sweet carrot and roast potatoes. It was a very traditional British Sunday meal. Dad came upstairs and asked me if I would like him to make me some Éclairs. I totally forgot about it. I told him last night that I would like him to help me make Éclairs. So he started making the choux pastry for me. I stopped working about the network and came down to help him make chocolate sauce. I also helped HG making apple sauce and sweet carrot. HG made me the pork crackling as well. It was so good until he told me to move the crackling to other plate I touched the plate that had been in the oven and burnt my fingers. The meal was so good. We had 2 Éclairs each as our dessert. We also harvested all the carrots that day. We gave 3 leeks, 15 dirty carrots, 3 cleaned carrots, and 1 courgette in a bottle shape, 2 bunches of onions and left over pork leg stew to mum and dad. Dad said he probably does not need to buy any vegetable next week. We are so proud of our first year vegetable crops. Mum and dad went back to Alva after lunch. We went over to Charlotte’s house to sort out the network problem. We finally got it working. It was such a relief. We came home and had noodles as our dinner. After dinner we watched the X-Factor. It was so funny.

And the vegetables are very nice - we still have some carrots and onions left - yummy - the carrots taste like real carrots!!! The leeks are good sauteed in butter, with milk and mashed potatoes added!! Saved a fortune in the supermarket.
